atlantic city future

Atlantic City has been known for its beaches and Boardwalk for more than 100 years. Since the 1970s, however, Atlantic City has also been known for world-class casino gaming that brought Las Vegas-style gaming to the East Coast. So, where should you go if you want to gamble in Atlantic City this summer? Here are a few suggestions for the top casinos in Atlantic City.

Borgata Hotel and Casino

Rated the best casino on both Trip Advisor and Yelp, the Borgata makes up for not being right on the beach with its amenities. The hotel, with just over 2,000 rooms, is the largest hotel in New Jersey. The Borgata is owned by MGM Resorts International and is the top-grossing casino in Atlantic City. It made more than $755 million in revenue in 2017.

The casino floor is 160,000 square feet and has 4,000 slot machines, 180 gaming tables, and 50 poker tables. In addition to the large hotel, the Borgata also boasts an 800-room boutique hotel and a two-story spa with boutiques and retail shops and five heated pools. And, each room has an ocean view.

Other Features of the Borgata

The Borgata has many dining options, including five fine-dining restaurants. Bobby Flay Steak and Wolfgang Puck American Grille are the two best-known. Both of these restaurants have earned rave reviews for their cuisine and excellent customer service. The hotel and casino also offers casual dining and fast food options, many of which are open 24 hours a day.

The Borgata is quickly becoming a venue for music and comedy. The main venue for the resort, The Borgata Event Center, seats 2,400 and can also be used as a ballroom and a theater. The event center was built for music and features great acoustics for a small venue. The Borgata opened an outdoor venue, Festival Park, in 2015, and it has a larger seating capacity of 4,500 people. The Borgata Music Box, which was also designed for musical acts and features great acoustics as well, has a seating capacity of 1,000.

While all these features are wonderful, the Borgata is best-known for its poker. It features several VIP poker rooms with high limits and has daily tournaments, as well as high-stakes weekly tournaments that are regularly featured on the World Poker Tour.

Caesar’s Atlantic City

Caesar’s Atlantic City was the city’s second casino. The resort, with a Greco-Roman theme, has 145,000 feet of gaming space, with 3,000 slot machines and 135 table games. The gaming area is broken up into four areas. Unlike some of the other casinos in the area, Caesar’s features an Asian gaming area with mahjong, which is a popular game in China and other Asian countries. There is also a poker room with 20 tables and an entire floor of slot machines.

The hotel has nearly 1,200 rooms and a spa. Caesar’s may be best-known for its venue, the Circus Maximus. Named after the famed Roman stadium, the venue has hosted everyone from Frank Sinatra to Celine Dion. Another draw for the casino is the high-end shopping area known as Playground Pier, which features such well-known brands as Apple, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Armani.

Caesar’s received high marks from both Yelp and Trip Advisor for its casino, including both the slot machines and the gaming tables. Customer service at the casino was also rated highly for staff attentiveness and helpfulness. The Boardwalk by the casino was also highly rated for the views and atmosphere.

Golden Nugget Atlantic City

The Golden Nugget has a Western outlaw feel to it, not unlike its sister casino in Las Vegas. The resort features nearly 75,000 feet of gaming space, including 1,500 slot machines and 75 table games. The hotel has 728 rooms.

Perhaps the most interesting feature about the Golden Nugget as a hotel is its recreation deck, which includes a spa, outdoor heated pool with hot tubs and cabanas, tennis and basketball courts and a jogging track, which is seen nowhere else on the Boardwalk. There is also a marina at the casino if you are a boating fan. In addition, the casino has an entertainment venue that seats 2,000 people and can be converted into a ballroom.

As a nod to the 21st century, the Golden Nugget also has an online casino that is billed as the largest and most diverse online casino in the area. The online casino boasts 500 different types of games.

The Golden Nugget is rated highly on Trip Advisor and Yelp for its hotel, restaurants, and courteous staff.

Tropicana Atlantic City

The Tropicana is rated highly for the availability of both slot machines and table games, and customers say it feels more like Las Vegas excitement than the other casinos on the Boardwalk. The Tropicana has more than 2,100 rooms and 124,000 square feet of gaming space. The casino has 3,000 slot machines and 135 table games and offers video gaming and an area for betting on horse racing.

Daily poker tournaments are also held at the poker tables. The Quarter, the entertainment center of The Tropicana, has 40 shops, nine restaurants – both upscale and casual, 10 bars and nightclubs, Atlantic City’s only movie theater, and a luxury spa. Although the Tropicana has gone through several owners and financial issues, revenue for the casino has appeared to be on the upswing within the last year, helped in part by renovations.

Newcomers

While revenue projections are looking up for the casinos in Atlantic City based on 2017 revenue, the already-established hotel-casino and resorts will have some competition this summer, as two new casinos are set to open.

The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino is set to open June 28 in the old Trump Taj Mahal Casino. The resort will have more than 2,000 hotel rooms and 167,000 feet of gaming space to include expanded poker gaming. These remain the most popular gaming tables in Atlantic City. The Hard Rock will also boast expanded venues for concerts and has booked many celebrities for the summer, such as Carrie Underwood and Pitbull.

In addition to the Hard Rock Atlantic City, the Ocean Casino Resort is also set to open June 28 in the old Revel Casino location. The resort also plans a large opening weekend for concerts, with DJ Diplo and Jermaine Dupri set to perform.

The resort will boast 1,400 rooms and suites, a spa and 130,000 square feet of gaming space and several VIP areas, one overlooking the ocean. The casino has discussed the large number and variety of slot machines and gaming tables but has not yet released the exact numbers for each.

With all the new activity in Atlantic City, it will provide a much-needed boost to the economy of the area, which has seen hard times since the Great Recession. Several casinos have closed over the last nine years.

But, it appears the city is now on the rebound, with casinos undergoing expansion and renovation and new venues and shops added to the Boardwalk. Whichever casino you choose, you are sure to have a good time in the area dining, gaming, shopping, and playing this summer along the Boardwalk in one of the best-known gaming cities in the world.
