1. Annihilation
A group of scientists is sent to explore a disaster area shrouded in mystery. But, they are not the first ones there. Another group of scientists had already been there only to disappear mysteriously. Only one person returned, but with horrific injuries. 2. A Quiet Place
A family is hiding from a malevolent supernatural entity that can detect them only if they speak or make noise. Make a small noise and you are dead. In order to avoid being killed, they must learn to live in total silence. A Quiet Place stars Emily Blunt and John Krasinski. The studio released it April 6, 2018.
3. Cadaver
A cop just out of rehab is assigned to a city hospital morgue. She soon finds herself in the thick of a series of bizarre happenings and violent murders. Her investigation leads her to a corpse that is the source of all the trouble. Cadaver stars Shay Mitchell, Grey Damon, Stana Katic, and Nick Thune.
4. Delirium
Delirium is about a man who is recently sent home from a psychiatric hospital. He decides to recuperate in a mansion he had inherited from his deceased father. Unbeknownst to him, there are ghosts living in the house and they are going to turn his life upside down. The film stars Topher Grace, Genesis Rodriguez, and Patricia Clarkson.
5. Hereditary
Members of a family discover horrifying secrets about their recently deceased matriarch. When they realize what terrible fate awaits them, they must do whatever they can to thwart the evil. Hereditary stars Toni Collette, Milly Shapiro, Alex Wolff, Gabriel Byrne, and Ann Dowd. It had a June 8, 2018, release date.
6. Searching
A widower decides to search for his missing daughter using her online presence when a police investigation leads nowhere. 7. The Climax
On a cold and wintry night, a group of young dancers gathers in an empty school building to rehearse. Unbeknownst to them, someone has laced their sangria with LSD. Their all-night party soon turns into a nightmare as they become unable to separate reality from fantasy. The Climax stars Sofia Boutella, Kiddy Smile, and Romain Guillermic. It was in theaters on Sept. 19, 2018.
8. The First Purge
A prequel to The Purge, this movie explains how it all began. To reduce the crime rate to below 1 percent, America’s new founding fathers test a sociological theory on aggression. They allow the denizens of an isolated community to vent their aggression for one night – with unexpected consequences. The film stars Joivan Wade, Y’lan Noel, Marisa Tomei, Luna Lauren Velez, and Lex Scott Davis. Its release date was July 4, 2018.
9. The Meg
A 75-foot prehistoric shark attacks a deep-sea submersible belonging to an undersea facility. It turns out to be a megalodon – a gigantic shark thought to have become extinct long ago. An oceanographer pulled out of retirement must kill the shark to save the multimillion-dollar undersea venture. 11. The Strangers: Prey at Night
The Strangers: Prey at Night is a sequel to the 2008 horror film, The Strangers. In the original film, three masked intruders terrorize a couple spending a weekend in a vacation home. In the sequel, the same group of criminals terrorizes a new family. Multiple homicide cases that took place in California in 1981 are the basis for this movie. 13. Unsane
A Boston woman named Sawyer Valentini relocates to Pennsylvania to hide from a dangerous stalker. But, she soon finds herself in deeper trouble when doctors and nurses at the facility begin to question her sanity. When she discovers that one of the staff is her stalker, she must do whatever it takes to save herself. Director Steven Soderbergh shot this film on an iPhone. The film stars Claire Foy, Jay Pharoah, Joshua Leonard, Juno Temple, Amy Irving, and Aimee Mullins. Its release date was March 23, 2018.
14. Upgrade
As part of a secret government experiment, a man gets an upgrade and becomes a killing machine. He immediately goes on a killing spree to get to the people who killed his wife. Released on June 1, 2018, this science-fiction-action-horror gorefest stars Logan Marshall-Green, Betty Gabriel, and Melanie Vallejo.
15. Winchester
Based on a true story, Winchester is about a house in San Jose, Calif., that many believe has ghosts. Sarah Winchester builds a massive mansion after inheriting the Winchester rifle fortune. Soon, this house attracts the ghosts of people killed by the Winchester rifle. Imagine how many people the rifles killed since they were first made. The film stars Helen Mirren, Sarah Snook, and Jason Clarke. It had a Feb. 2, 2018, release date.
Some other horror films worth checking out are The House with a Clock in its Walls, Suspiria, and Halloween. The last two are remakes of films of the same name. If you have seen them before, you should see them again. If you have not, then that’s one good reason to see them.
