Hard Rock International held a hiring event recently to search for people who would like to work at its new casino-resort in Atlantic City.

Preparing for a New Beginning

A two-day hiring event for the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City was primarily open to those who had previously worked at the Trump Taj Mahal before it closed in 2016.

The hiring events are both exclusive; they were only available to those who had received invitations. If a former employee of the Taj Mahal is seeking employment at the new casino, he or she will have to have worked at the establishment for no less than 30 days before it closed.

The new Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City will be built in the same location where Trump Taj Mahal used to be.

Hard Rock purchased the Trump Taj Mahal from Carl Icahn, a N.Y.-based real estate developer. While the establishments’ construction cost real estate mogul-turned-politician, Donald Trump, $1 billion, Icahn sold it for $50 million.

After the casino’s workers went on strike, which lasted for an entire month, the real estate developer said he would sell the property in October 2016. Taj Mahal employees were upset with the property’s former owner. Some ex-workers were turned down after they sought a restoration of their pensions and benefits, which, they argued, prevented the establishment from shutting much sooner.

Large Investments and Renovations

The highly anticipated casino is currently undergoing renovations. After the Hard Rock purchased the business, the company invested $375 million into construction with the goal of transforming the establishment into a casino-resort with a rock n’ roll setting. It was then decided later an investment of $500 million would be put toward restoring the property.

There have been quite a few changes to the property have been made throughout the reconstruction process. A variety of components unique to the Trump Taj Mahal were removed and replaced with elements consistent with Hard Rock’s identity.

The café, which was operated by the Hard Rock International but was located on the Trump Taj Mahal’s resort, will also undergo renovations and will be made larger in order to hold a greater number of customers.

A Long but Rewarding Road

The renovations for the Hard Rock Hotel & Atlantic City Casino began last July and have since come a very long way. As mentioned previously, the goal of Hard Rock was to essentially transform the former Trump Taj Mahal and completely rebrand the establishment with the distinct Hard Rock look.

Matt Harkness, president of the Hard Rock Hotel & Atlantic City Casino, said the changes to the establishment were happening quickly. Everyone was “moving fast at 100 miles per hour.” He expressed how different the building looked each time he entered, stating “it’s a transformation every day,” according to The Press of Atlantic City.

The establishment is certainly one that would capture the eyes of every tourist. The building more closely resembles a royal palace more than a gambling establishment. While $30 million would be needed to remove the royal and lavish themed setting, overall, renovations went smoothly.

Joe Jingli, one of the partners, said last year that “most of the interior demolition” was completed and various areas of the establishment began to be revealed. The changes come with both excitement and sadness. While some were optimistic about the changes, some were saddened to see the former Trump Taj Mahal go.
