The deal, which does not include sports betting or fantasy football – will span across several years and will begin officially with this weekend’s playoffs.
According to an anonymous source at The Associated Press, the arrangement is said to be worth over $30 million per year for the next 3 years, however; specific terms of the deal are yet to be announced. What is known, is that Caesars Entertainment will own the exclusive rights to NFL trademarks in both the U.S as well as the United Kingdom, including the Super Bowl draft where the casino giant plans to host certain parts of the event in 2020.
Not only will Caesars draw on its properties, but it will also take on music acts and artists, celebrity chefs, and other entertainment facilities to ensure NFL enthusiasts are provided with “unique experiences.”
Other casino operators want in
Other casino operators already have agreements in place with sporting leagues, including the Ravens, Cowboys, Saints, Eagles, Falcons, Bears, Jets, Raiders, Lions and Seahawks. But, Caesars Entertainment has always favored sports book operations and locations in Mississippi, New Jersey, and Nevada until now, with an additional one planned for Pennsylvania.
Last year the Supreme Court ruled out sports betting expansion in other states too, which prompted other gambling operators to seek partnerships with leagues. MGM Resorts entered a deal with NBA last year, as well as the NHL and Major League Baseball.
In contrast to the new partnership, the league was said to be hesitant about taking on any casino sponsors in the past, due to the fact that gambling was seen as one of their largest threats. Las Vegas attempted to advertise the Super Bowl on numerous occasions in the past, though their efforts were turned down due to the fact the city already has sports betting and casino gambling in place.
Former Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was helping to organize a fantasy sports convention with the NFL three years ago, however; the event was canceled after it was planned to be held in a convention center directly opposite to a Las Vegas casino.
More deals in place with Las Vegas
Come 2017, the NHL decided to hold a team in Las Vegas, making it the very first major franchise for sports in the city. As the leagues slowly became accustomed to the idea, Vegas also managed to pin down the Raiders for the start of 2020, with a $1.9 billion dollar stadium built across the freeway from another major casino operator – the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino. Roger Goodell, the official NFL Commissioner was present f
or the groundbreaking of the new stadium and awarded the as Vegas 2020 NFL draft.
In Caesars Entertainment other movements, the kingpin operators have also entered a new partnership with The Oneida Nation who are preparing to offer sports betting through their other casino establishments including the Turning Stone Resort & Casino. Though approval is needed from the National Indian Gaming Commission, a review is scheduled to take place before any operations can begin. The New York Gaming Commission must also set sports betting regulations for all of the gambling entities and operators involved.
Players of the Point Palace Casino and Yellow Brick Road will also be able to enjoy the benefits and rewards of the new partnership, as TS rewards and player loyalty points will be exchangeable for Total Rewards Points which can be redeemed at any of the properties owned by Caesars. The same rewards system will be available to Total Reward Point members who visit any of Oneida Nation Casino’s properties too; making it a win-win deal on both sides.
At the same time as the announcement, Oneida Nation is preparing to launch their Palace Casino venue, in which will open up over 200 full-time and part-time job opportunities. An employment fair was hosted a few weeks ago in order to staff the facility when it is due to open its doors early spring.
