The Kindred Group, in partnership with Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment, has just introduced a new option for Pennsylvania residents to try online sports betting. Operating under the name Unibet Sportsbook, it will allow Pennsylvania-based users to go online and bet on their choice of sportsbook options. This can be done through a browser or a dedicated mobile app.

Kindred U.S. senior vice president, Manuel Stan, recently talked to the press about the launch, explaining that they are “thrilled to take the partnership with Mohegan Sun online and bring the Pennsylvanian guests a state-of-the-art online gambling experience.”

Kindred Group already runs another betting platform in the state of New Jersey, launched just days before the new Mohegan Sun one is going live. Since online sportsbook platforms are exclusive to each state (and not allowed to run nationally), Kindred’s venture into the arena could keep growing as new destinations and states have a need for it.

Stan is excited about the changes to come and is sure customers will enjoy the chance to play online. “After a successful launch of our betting lounge, Unibet Sportsbook at Mohegan Sun Pocono, we are thrilled to take the partnership with Mohegan Sun online and bring the Pennsylvanian guests a state-of-the-art online gambling experience, including the best online casino games and an impressive online sportsbook,” said Stan.

There’s no doubt that Kindred intends on growing into other markets as well. Depending on how well their new Pennsylvania venture works out, this might be sooner than expected. “Mohegan Sun has been a great partner throughout the preparation for this launch and we are confident that this will be a long-term and successful relationship in bringing a top-quality product to Pennsylvania.”

Mohegan Sun Pocono was the first gaming established in Pennsylvania, all the way back in the mid-2000s. Today, Mohegan Sun is one of the largest casinos in the country – along with Foxwoods Resort Casino – with an impressive count of 1900 slot machines and over 50 tables. Mohegan Sun is also well-known for its world-class entertainment, shopping and dining options.

Online Sports Betting in the US

Online sports betting

Online sports betting is only legal in a few states, including Indiana, Iowa, Nevada, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and West Virginia. In addition, Mississippi offers a limited betting option, which allows online betting as long as you are within a casino property (land or water based) while doing it. Although legal, only one casino currently offers this option.

Rules for online sports betting vary from state to state, with some requiring you to open an account in person at a local casino before you’re allowed to bet online. This is the case in Nevada, for example, where you must walk into a physical casino, present your ID, open an account and make a minimum deposit of $50 into your new account.

In Pennsylvania, the option for online sports betting became available in May 2019, when SugarHouse Sportsbook PA opened its virtual doors. Since then, a few other options have been added, with Kindred Group offering the latest.

Other states could soon join the club, with Delaware now allowing online sports betting (although nobody is offering the option so far) and Arkansas  approving online betting options in November 2018, but under the same rules that Mississippi operates on. Both New York and Michigan have been trying to pass sports betting legislation for some time, but so far all proposals have been rejected. Both states are continuing to work on it with hopes things will change in 2020.
