USA Today’s survey of the 10 best US casinos outside Las Vegas is an eye opener. When rating resort casinos, the survey focused on the gaming experience and looked at what the place had to offer, the value for the services offered and even the fees charged to visit. Three of the largest tribal casinos in the country made it into the top 10 list, with the massive Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut taking spot number 2.

Perhaps more surprising is the fact that the Barona Resort & Casino in Lakeside, California – a casino that’s less known than Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun – is taking the top spot. A tribal casino with over 2,500 slots machines, Barona also offers a 400-room hotel, a luxury spa, and award-winning golf and dining.

The results were gathered by talking to players, research from the 10Best editorial staff, and consulting with gaming industry analysts.  Except for spot #10, taken by a casino in Biloxi, Mississippi, most casinos are located on the East and West Coast with New York, California, and Connecticut having more spaces on the list.

So … What Exactly Make These Casinos Better?

Players and experts agree that a variety of table games and friendly table dealers is important, but so is a strong loyalty program that truly rewards returning players. Experts also like smoke-free floors, a good choice of entertainment and food, and a good variety of slot machines in all denominations.
