On August 18, a 68-year-old resident of Riverside, California was robbed at gunpoint after leaving the Morongo Casino in Cabazon.
The incident took place in broad daylight at precisely 1:30 pm. The victim, who does not wish to be named, allegedly left the building with $3,000 worth of winnings before her attacker appeared and demanded her purse and keys.
She believes the suspect was watching her the whole time she was at the casino, saw that she had hit the jackpot, then proceeded to follow her out of the property into the carpark.
“He chased me around the car. He demanded my keys. He demanded my purse. He wanted to know where the keys were to my car so I handed it to him. I told him ‘take my car, take whatever you want. Just please leave,'” said the woman.
The casino have released a statement since the attack, claiming that they will continue to investigate and review the surveillance footage in a bid to establish the woman’s attacker. The victim still believes that more could have been done on the casino’s part.
“I just wish the casinos would take it more seriously about what’s happening there. I went back to the casino and they ran every one of their cameras and didn’t see anything that was suspicious,” she said.
The casino are now referring all media enquiries to the authorities directly.
